Occupying a prominent position in one of Bath's most popular area, The Club House is a multi-facetted development which will transform both a street-level retail unit, plus a labyrinth of subterranean basement and sub-basement vaulted spaces.
Accessed via a pavement entrance on Argyle Street, the vast project will convert the derelict underground areas into a vibrant commercial complex featuring coworking facilities, private and serviced offices, meeting rooms and breakout areas.
The vaulted areas have been neglected for decades, so preparing these areas for any form of commercial development is a challenging undertaking. After removing vast quantities of rubbish, the walls were sandblasted after which the natural beauty of the locally sourced Bath stone was revealed. These words do little to articulate the scale of this exercise or the subsequent ‘tanking' work that successfully ‘waterproofed' this hitherto most dank of areas.
The scale of this eighteen-month project should not be underestimated especially when one considers the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The JSBS team are now embarking on the initial M&E phase, which includes the installation of new electrical, plumbing, heating and communication networks.
